Top 5 Myths about Gall Bladder stones
Myth – Removal of the gallbladder and does not have any side effects.
You may be able to survive without a gallbladder, but then you will be at greater risk of developing liver disorders. You will have impaired fat digestion and probable deficiency of fat soluble nutrients such as vitamins including vitamins D, K, E and A, as well as essential fatty acids. This will slowly start showing some serious side effects in the long run leading to other diseases.
Myth – Apple cider vinegar will help you dissolve gallstones.
Apple cider vinegar is high in calcium, potassium, malic acid and acetic acid. There is nothing about apple cider vinegar that helps to maintain the pH of the body. In fact it only helps make the body more acidic. And its common knowledge that most people who have gallstones face acidity in general. You have to understand, gallstones are caused due to one reason and one reason only – not eating your meals at a certain time. Over 95% people with gall bladder stones will have a minimum 2 hour gap between the time they get up and the time they have breakfast. Over 40% people with gallstones have a habit of skipping breakfast. And over 60% people with gallstones usually have dinner after 9PM. Moreover, their food timings are never fixed – this means they will have dinner at 8PM one day and 10PM the next and so on. Its taught to us when we were in school that the body needs food and it releases digestive juices at the time when we are most likely to eat food. So if you are not eating food at the same time the next day, the body will still release acids hoping that the food would come, and if you don’t eat for 2 hours, then essentially you just have acid in your stomach. That is why when you don’t eat your meals for a long time, you start getting headaches and feel acidic. Now imagine this acid in your stomach, and you having apple cider vinegar on top of this. Now do you understand?
Myth – Removing the gallbladder will solve all your problems and you will be completely fine.
This is usually not the case. Most people experience worse symptoms after their gallbladder is taken out. Either way, removing the gallbladder does not address the underlying metabolic abnormalities that caused a person to develop stones in the first place. The true way to address this problem is to address the reason behind it.
Myth – Lemon Juice will help dissolve gallstones.
The same logic above with acetic acid goes in this case with citric acid. Agreed that lemon juice helps in digestion. But the thing is – if you are told that lemon juice is helpful for gallstones – you will only keep having small shots of lemon juice all day hoping it would work. No! Your meals are more important. And it is more important to eat on time. Your body is smart and it will take care of the rest on its own by balancing the pH. You don’t need to add lemon juice to everything hoping this would be the shot that would finally dissolve your gallstone.
Myth – The use of ursodeoxycholic acid is normal and does not cause any problems in the long run.
Ursodeoxycholic acid has been known to dissolve gallstones – over the course of two years. And if you stop consuming ursodeoxycholic acid, then they are known to recur too. This means this compound is such that you will have to consume lifelong. Along with side effects such as nausea, diarrhea and gallstone calcification! That’s ironic. Something meant to dissolve gallstones actually leaves you with another problem.
But tell me, why take something lifelong to dissolve the stones, when you can do something for 6-7 months to change the metabolism so that there are no more gallstones.
You need to do two things to dissolve gallstones naturally:
- Improve your diet and timings for eating food. Heavy breakfast before 8AM and light dinner before 730PM should help you contain the size of stones hereon.
- Take the proper medication to support your metabolic system and regulate pH so that gallstones can dissolve. This can be done by taking GC, Acidim and Lipican.

And remember, when someone tells you to do something for gallstones – ask them why and only if the logic suits you, then do it. Otherwise there is a lot of nonsense on the internet. Be Smart!
